We picked out a CX-3 replacement today. New Mazda3 Sport GT is SO NICE. But, $32K (CAD) is far to much for us. We then looked at Subaru Imprezas and found a nice lease return with 1500 miles for $21K (CAD), but goddamn those are shitty cars.
We then test drove a VW Golf Sportwagon 4Motion and wow. I don’t like VW, but I have to admit...its really nice. And wagons rule.
So, if all goes as planned, we will own a VW Sportwagon by the end of the month.

Was AWD a prerequisite ? If not, d id you take a look at the Elantra GT? I’ve alwa ys thought the curr ent Elantra GT is a sharp looking hatch and the interior seems like a pretty decent place to be as well. If I had the money for a new car, one would seriously be on my list!
Not a crossover or wagon, no, but it’s a larger hatchback, so would still be pretty practical I’d think. It actually has more space with the rear seats folded down than the CX-3 does! 55 cubic feet to the CX-3's 44!

Were hoping for a ton more room. The wagon is like,.triple the cx3 in space

That’s a good choice (mind you I’ve owned a VW since 2002 so I might be biased). If it helps you getting used to the idea of owning a VW ...pretend it’s a Skoda.

I think we will! You were a major reason we even looked.

Good choice. I LOVED LOVED mine, the 1.8t is awesome and tuneable, and the interior is light years ahead of anything else in its price. It was just as reliable as any Subaru or Honda I’ve owned in recent memory. The seats are a bit hard, but what cars’ aren’t, these days.
Edit: if you get one with a sunroof, make sure they dump a few gallons of water over it before you sign the papers. They either leak right away or they don’t; and don’t let yourself find out the hard way.

Kia Rondo

And we never got the Chevrolet SS, Buick Regal TourX, or Jaguar XF Sportbrake.

WHAT? I thought wagons were more popular up there! So that’s a surprise
I know Mercedes sells some wagons up there that we don’t
get.

I’ve got a 2014 TDI wagon and I absolutely love it. It’s obviously not the exact same as what you’re after but I have been blown away in terms of build quality and fit & finish compared to the Ford’s I’ve been driving for years.

Not too much of a difference actually! Th
e Golf
has 30 cubic feet of trunk space without the seats folded, and the Elantra GT has 24 cubic feet without them folded....not as big a gap between the two as I’d have thought! Still more in the Golf though. :)

I hope that’s the case now cos mine leaked after about 5 years when the rear drains plugged up and started flowing into the spare wheel well instead. 10 years later they’ve probably v fixed that.
The Pano roof is awesome even though mine has also been a bit of a PITA.
I love my wagon but would suggest looking at the extended warranty if you plan to keep it around a while.

Welcome to the dark side. You’re in good company.

The VWs are very nice places to be. I’m smitten with the Audi’s but I wouldn’t turn down a good Golf R either. You’ll enjoy it.

By those dates, I’m guessing you have a Mk6?All sunroofs run the risk of plugging and leaking; clearing them out is just regular maintenance. The Mk7 ones leak due to poorly drilled roof rack screws and pinch welds on the roof plate. Either the car was welded properly or it wasn’t; fixing a bad car requires exposing the roof sheet metal.

Yay wagons! I love my sport wagon, so much better to drive on the curvy roads out to the beach.

Oooh that’s worse
Mine’s a Mk5: yeah all my problems were plumbing related, blockages and bad adhesive. Then the sunshade fell off....

Congrats.
Looks like I’m the only one with the VW estate, without VW badges and larger car but unsporty.
I hope you enjoy your VW Golf Sportwagen.

I’ve hoped for worse depreciation on the 4Motion wagons because they seem like a good buy but so far they haven’t fallen a ton.
If you end up with one I look forward to hearing about the day to day with it.

Pretty sweet, one of the young guys at work ordered in a manual 2019 sport wagon in white. They just got it a few weeks ago. He had them keep the stock wheels and put some nice wheels on. It looks pretty good.
He went from a mitsu Legnum so its funny seeing him trying to get back into lhd..

Mk7s are such nice cars. I’d still like one when it’s time for the e90 to get replaced.

I test drove a 3door Golf last year. I was impressed with how nice it was. It's a good thing it will primarily be your wife's car else you'll want to mod it.

That checks out. We're not related and complete strangers so why not check out the car.

Not sure where you got that idea. It couldn’t have anything to do with having three Golfs.

But driving a £1500 shitbox is more fun
